Om Amriteshwaryai Namah, Seeing Amma makes my heart overflow with so much love that it makes me cry. These are tears of love I feel. I feel a sense of humbleness in the presence of greatness.
This crying for Amma is normal among many of us devotees and is all good. It's very cleansing and has a different purpose than when we cry over something we lost, or are feeling sad, angry about. The end result is very different. It feels much more beneficial, good and positive. Amma says that when we cry for God, our Guru, or diety, just five minutes of it equals to one hour of meditation. That is how powerful and beneficial it is. Because of that, I try to seize every opportunity to let my tears fall for Her Lotus Feet because they propel me towards Her.
I never felt drained when crying for Amma than when I cry for other things. I always feel cleansed, closer and a hint of bliss during crying.
These tears we shed is the longing in our hearts that calls out to God that we no longer wish to be separate. When Amma was little, She would stay up all night long crying to a murti of Krishna.
I can understand if crying might feel not normal for some people who are not accustomed to feeling from the heart. As long as one leads from the heart, nothing can go wrong there because the heart is centered in love. Really the heart isn't something that the mind/intellectual can analyze or try to make sense of. They are two different worlds. The heart is beyond the language of words and symbols. It is infinite. All we can do is just go with the flow with where our hearts take us and have the faith and trust in it. Understanding will come naturally if we don't force it. It takes patience and openess.
Once you have met Amma, there is nothing to worry about. She has already taken our hands and is walking with us every moment of the day. All we can do is just enjoy this walk with Her every precious moment and learn everything She is teaching us on the way.
Jai Amma!
